Mich. (WLUC) – Monday’s episode of Upper Michigan Today explored ways you can seamlessly add movement in your life through your daily routine

Audrey Stetson and John Redfield demonstrated how consistent practice of small, gentle movements can impact your emotional, physical and <a href="https://healthylife7.com/oregon-congresswoman-proposes-program-to-support-first-responder-mental-health/” title=”Oregon congresswoman proposes program to support first responder mental health”>mental health for the better. So, consider kicking off your shoes and moving with UMT today

Movement is good for people no matter their age. Below, Audrey and John reflect on how the effort they put in now will reap health benefits later in life. But remember: it’s never too late to start moving

Christine Harkness is the founder of Aging U.P., which sees growing older as an opportunity, not a hindrance. Upon her most recent visit to the UMT studio, Christine raised awareness about the impact physical activity has on healthy aging and cognitive function

Aging U.P. is not saying you have to join a gym or run a marathon. Christine says everyday activity goes a long way in keeping our brains engaged, our blood flowing and our joints flexible

You can practice some simple movements with UMT standing up, from a chair or in water (to provide buoyancy and minimize fall risk)

Christine likes to get creative with Aging U.P. motives, encouraging fun ways to mix up your daily movement like the flash cards below. She also wants to validate gentle walks as exercise. Fun activities like dancing can get your heart pumping to a healthy extent, too

The Monday movement continues in the segment below, as Northern Center for Lifelong Learning Program Planner Bonnie Bolz joins Audrey and John in the studio to shine a light on the club. NCLL is a volunteer organization that offers enjoyable and educational classes, field trips, presentations and more

The NCLL schedule typically works well for retired folks, but all adults are welcome. Follow the organization’s Facebook to stay up-to-date with the fall 2026 program

Looking for a way to combine community with movement? Asahi might just be your answer. Asahi Nordic is a Finnish health practice. Practicers say the gentle movement exercise resembles yoga, tai chi and qigong

Asahi Nordic promotes improved balance, calmer mental state, better sleep and lots more. Allow A1 Asahi Instructors Diane Tschiring and Ann Constance to guide you in a short practice below

Asahi Week begins Aug. 18 in across Marquette, starting with an NCLL intro class from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Peter White Public Library Community Room. Click here to find a registration form

You can contact Diane at dianetschirgi@gmail.com to learn about volunteer teacher training, Asahi walking and more class opportunities
