Most parents face an uphill battle getting kids to eat anything colorful, competing against a familiar lineup of chicken nuggets, plain pasta and whatever else counts as beige. One Hollywood mom has been refreshingly candid about that exact struggle rather than pretending her own house looks any different

She has shared some very specific strategies for introducing healthier foods to her two sons. Keep reading to see what actually works in her house

Her Family Motto Is Built Around Color

Jessica Biel and her husband have built an entire family motto around getting more color onto the plate. She has said their approach is essentially a rainbow diet, eating as many different colored foods as possible so the family gets a wider range of nutrients and vitamins

The goal is not any single vegetable in particular, it is variety across the whole plate. That framing gives kids a simple, visual way to think about what a good meal actually looks like

She Is Honest About The Beige Food Phase

Biel has been upfront that the rainbow approach does not always go smoothly. She has openly described her younger son going through what she called a beige food phase, admitting that she struggles to get vegetables into her kids just like any other parent

That honesty is part of what makes her approach feel realistic rather than aspirational. Even with a stated family motto around color, getting an actual toddler to cooperate is still its own daily negotiation

Incentives And Positive Reinforcement Do The Rest

To help push through that resistance, Biel and her husband lean on small incentives rather than pressure. She has said they offer a fun experience at the end of the week if vegetables get eaten consistently, along with making a genuinely big deal out of it whenever a new food actually gets tried

That positive reinforcement, celebrating the win rather than punishing the refusal, keeps trying new foods feeling like an accomplishment instead of a chore. It is a small shift in tone that seems to matter as much as any specific food on the plate

One Restaurant Is Simply Off The Table

Beyond what she actively introduces, Biel has also been clear about one thing she keeps out entirely. She has said McDonald’s is simply not allowed in her house, citing concerns about the quality of the food rather than any strict anti fast food stance overall

Instead of cutting fast food out completely, she has said she would rather pay more for a nicer burger and fries elsewhere. That distinction, avoiding one specific chain rather than fast food as a whole category, fits her broader description of herself as not being rigid or overly strict about food

So while a family motto about eating the rainbow sounds like a lot to live up to, Biel’s honesty about the beige phases and daily struggles makes the whole approach feel a lot more doable. Sometimes introducing healthier food to kids has less to do with any single ingredient and more to do with how the whole thing gets framed at the table
