What are GLP-1’s?
GLP-1’s are a category of prescription medications labeled as glucagon-like peptide-1’s. They’re offered in several brand name forms, like Ozempic, where semaglutide is the main active compound, or Zepbound, which is based on tirzepatide. But they do basically the same thing. They mimic a hormone that the body is supposed to produce naturally, which increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to control blood sugar. While they were initially created to control diabetes, they have been proven to be effective tools for weight loss.
