CLARION, Pa. (EYT)— State police charged a Clarion woman after she allegedly stole shoes, electronics, and a debit card from locker rooms at a local gym

According to court records, Clarion-based State Police filed charges against 32-year-old Tayler Leigh Oakes, of Clarion, on August 24 with the following offenses:

    • Theft by Unlawful Taking, Misdemeanor 1
    • Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1
    • Access Device Issued to Another Who Did Not Authorize Use, Misdemeanor 2

The charges stem from an incident on July 8 at a gym in Clarion Township, according to the criminal complaint

Troopers responded to the facility at approximately 3:09 p.m. for a report of stolen property, the affidavit states

According to the complaint, three people reported items taken from lockers inside the facility during the same timeframe. Stolen items included a pair of sneakers, slides, body spray, a watch, and a Cash App debit card, police say. The total value of the stolen items was $459, the complaint states

State police said they reviewed facility surveillance video and observed Oakes entering the building with multiple bags, going into both the women’s locker room and the family locker room, and then leaving with multiple bags

According to the affidavit, the stolen Cash App card was used at a vape shop later that afternoon. Police say store surveillance showed Oakes attempting to purchase items with the card, which declined

Troopers interviewed Oakes by phone on July 9, according to the complaint. Police say Oakes initially denied being at the shop, but called back minutes later to admit taking the card

According to the affidavit, Oakes told troopers she took the card by mistake, attempted to use it, and then cut it up and flushed it down a toilet after it declined

Police interviewed Oakes in person on July 10, according to the complaint. During the interview, Oakes admitted to entering the locker rooms, taking the card, attempting to use it at the store, and destroying it, the affidavit states

A preliminary hearing for Oakes is scheduled for September 29 before Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill, according to court records
