Signature HealthCARE hosts yearly Senior Olympics at College Park Gym

Last Thursday brought Signature HealthCARE to Winchester during their Signature Olympics event’s fifth event of the season. In recent weeks, Signature HealthCARE has traveled across several states, hosting various Senior Olympics events and bringing inclusive activities to different venues. At the College Park gym, they hosted 14 different teams from the senior and rehabilitation centers in Kentucky. Helping coordinate the event was Parker Moore, the new Executive Administrator at Fountain Circle Care and Rehabilitation Center.
For his first event as administrator, Moore spent a great deal of time working with Signature HealthCARE to ensure the event would run smoothly. On how it feels to be the new administrator, he stated, “It’s special, really, to be able to support them (the residents). I was with the Danville center for three and a half years, so I do miss them. They’re here today, actually, so it will be an intense rivalry for the teams. But my favorite part has just been being able to serve the residents and provide them with opportunities like this.”
The event began with a musical act as an Elvis Presley impersonator took center stage. For over an hour, all 14 teams and anyone lucky enough to be walking by joined together and danced along to the music. As Elvis Presley interacted with the crowd and pulled onlookers into various dance moves, teams prepared for the upcoming games and challenges
With each year and season comes a new theme. The theme for this year was “Victory lies here, Road to Gold”. Once each team got the theme, they were allowed to create their own team names based around the overall theme, with many interpreting it very differently. Some team names included: Rowdy Riverside Rangers, Jackson 500 Road to Gold, Liberty Golden Olympians, and the Danville Center Dream Team. With the theme laid out, the games followed suit
All of the games were based on common Olympic events with an accessible twist, such as Wheelchair Racing and Carnival-style Basketball. Other games that the seniors competed in included: Shot Put, Ski Ball, Soccer, and Pong. Throughout all the competitions, players could win various awards, including the standard 1st through 3rd places, as well as multiple different superlatives. The goal of the day was to give the seniors a chance to come together without worrying about anything holding them back. All of the challenges were designed to focus on their abilities and were adapted to work with them, not against them.
Signature HealthCARE will host the Grand Finale on September 23rd in Louisville
