Building Resilient Immunization Programs: A 2026-2031 Roadmap for Public Health Leadership
Immunization remains one of the most effective tools in public health, protecting against preventable diseases, mitigating outbreaks, and reducing long-term health care costs. To inform a forward-looking roadmap for immunization leadership over the next five years, ASTHO engaged national immunization partners and health officials. The resulting resource highlights priorities, strategies, and coordinated actions to consider for strengthening immunization programs nationwide:
- National Perspectives on Immunization Barriers and Opportunities – Learn about the four major, interrelated challenges to strong vaccine uptake, identified by national partners from leading immunization, public health, and health care organizations.
- Health Agency Insights and Immunization Priorities – Read about key health agency immunization program priorities, as gleaned from conversations with the Infectious Disease Policy Committee, the Clinical Services Liaison Peer Network, which includes medical directors from multiple jurisdictions, and nine senior health officials.
- A Roadmap for Strengthening Immunization Through Coordinated Action – Explore coordinated actions for national partners and state and territorial health agencies to consider that can help safeguard public health, expand vaccine access, modernize data systems, support providers, and build public confidence.
- Supporting Jurisdictions at the Federal Level – Finally, learn how federal partners can maximize jurisdictional-level initiatives with flexible funding, policy alignment, and more.
