While the three-time Defensive Player of the Year stepped away from the sport at the end of his 2023 campaign, there have been rumors regarding him coming out of retirement throughout this offseason
Donald would also have a new star teammate if he choses to return to the NFL and join Los Angeles, as the Rams acquired star pass-rusher Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns on June 1
Garrett discussed the possibility of playing alongside Donald following the change of scenery
“Haven’t talked yet, but definitely expect to talk soon,” Garrett said in a June 3 interview with the Rams’ J.B. Long. “I don’t know what his plans are and I won’t pretend to know. I know a lot of people are excited and thrilled about the idea of him coming back. But just being able to talk to him, learn from him, I’ll take all the advice I can. He’s a great one for a reason, so just trying to get him in here talking to the guys. Especially the defensive line, that can mean a lot.”
Donald confirmed that he was considering coming out of retirement as well
“I’m for sure flirting with the idea,” Donald told NFL insider Jordan Schultz. “Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.”
While the 10-time Pro Bowler is now 35 years old, he didn’t show many signs of slowing down during his final NFL season in 2023
Donald racked up 53 tackles, 23 quarterback hits, 16 tackles for loss, eight sacks and three passes defended in 16 games
