Danone SA sales climbed in the second quarter, buoyed by the popularity of its high-protein yoghurts and fortified drinks for the elderly and ill

(June 29): Danone SA sales climbed in the second quarter, buoyed by the popularity of its high-protein yoghurts and fortified drinks for the elderly and ill

Like-for-like sales rose 4.2%, the producer of Actite of analysts in a Bloomberg survey. The company confirmed its guidance to increase sales between 3% and 5% this year

CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique has overseen a revival at Danone in recent years by shedding underperforming businesses and expanding in faster-growing areas like high-protein dairy offerings and food for cancer patients. The rise of weight-loss drugs has spurred demand for protein-rich, gut-friendly products

Earlier this year, Danone agreed to buy UK-based Huel, a maker of fortified protein powders and ready-to-consume drinks and meals popular with gym goers. It also acquired Australian dairy company Made Group to expand its offerings of coconut water and protein shakes in Asia and last year bought Kate Farms in the US, a maker of organic and plant-based medical nutrition products

Volume/mix contributed 1.9% to sales growth in the second quarter while pricing added 2.3%, the company said

The shares are up about 9% in the past three months, paring declines earlier in the year when the company was hit by an infant formula recall. The products have since returned to shelves
