When Davion arrived at Kindred Hospital, he required respiratory therapy, infectious disease care, wound care, occupational, and physical therapy and care from a general surgeon. After working with his interdisciplinary care team at the Kindred LTACH and the Kindred ARU, he was able to discharge to a Skilled Nursing Facility
Â
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Sugar Land
Davion required intensive care due to end-stage renal disease (kidney failure requiring dialysis) and missed dialysis treatments.Â
AT ADMISSION
Davion had dangerously high blood acidity, multiple wounds, pulmonary emboli, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. Emergency dialysis, bicarbonate infusion, bloodpressure medication, and antibiotics stabilized him before he transferred to Kindred Hospital Sugar Land
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred, Davion received respiratory therapy, infectious disease care, wound care, physical and occupational therapy, and care from a general surgeon. He received blood transfusions, and specialists treated his wound infections and pneumonia with antibiotics. Davion was gradually weaned off supplemental oxygen while PT and OT helped improve his functional status. He was then transferred to Kindred’s onsite Acute Rehabilitation Unit to continue therapy and further improve his endurance and function.
OUTCOME
After recovering and rehabilitating in the Kindred LTACH and then the Kindred ARU, Davion was discharged to a skilled nursing facility
