Elizabethton native serves aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt during RIMPAC exercise

Fireman Kaleb Myers, an Elizabethton native and 2019 Elizabethton High School graduate, serves aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands. Myers joined the U.S. Navy one year ago and said the work ethic instilled by his parents and mentors in Elizabethton helped prepare him for military service.

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — Elizabethton native Fireman Kaleb Myers is serving aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt as the U.S. Navy warship takes part in the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands
Myers, a 2019 graduate of Elizabethton High School, joined the Navy one year ago. He said his decision to enlist was driven by a desire to gain valuable work experience while pursuing a career in military service
“I joined the Navy because it seemed like the right call for the circumstances that I was in,” Myers said. “I also wanted to gain work experience.”
As a sailor aboard the aircraft carrier, Myers helps support the ship’s mission while working alongside fellow service members during one of the world’s largest international maritime exercises. RIMPAC brings together naval forces from around the globe to strengthen partnerships, improve interoperability and enhance maritime security through joint training
Myers said the values he learned growing up in Elizabethton have helped prepare him for the challenges of Navy life
“My mentors and parents taught me the importance of having a strong work ethic,” Myers said. “I watched and learned from their dedication and effort. In the Navy, you need to work hard to keep systems operating and the ship afloat.”
Myers’ service reflects the contributions of local residents serving in the nation’s armed forces while representing their hometown on a global stage
