The Flintstones star reportedly embarked on a weight loss journey to improve his health in the early 2000s, and has been very open about it over the years. His decision to stop drinking went beyond weight loss, however, as he previously revealed just how serious his relationship with alcohol had become…

While speaking to The Guardian in 2012, Goodman said: “It was getting to be too much. It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me, and it had gotten to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death. It was time to stop.”

In a 2010 interview with People, Goodman revealed that his breaking point came when he was nearing 400 lbs. and could no longer handle looking at himself at such an unhealthy weight. “I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself,” he admitted, adding: “You’re shaving in the mirror, and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”
