GRANT TWP. — First responders will be conducting a search and rescue exercise Saturday at Haymarsh State Game Area, about eight miles northeast of downtown Big Rapids
From noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 22, a large presence of fire trucks, ambulances, aircraft and police vehicles will be in the area, according to a news release from the Mecosta County Emergency Management

“All participants will be operating in pre-designated areas to avoid campers and other highly congested areas,” the news release said. “Signs will be posted in areas of operation.”
Haymarsh State Game Area is 6,737 acres, managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Reip, a few miles west of Chippewa Lake with access points off 21 Mile Road. Mecosta County Parks runs a rustic campground, at 20500 140th Ave., Big Rapids
“The state game area will remain open to the general public,” the news release said
