Forget skipping your favourite heels or bending over low for a kiss: Toronto Dating Hub hosted a tall singles mixer, encouraging attendees to embrace their height and meet someone at their level
With many people catfishing about their height and others unable to settle down, Toronto seems to be facing a dating recession
For tall daters specifically, finding a genuine dater who can appreciate their height can be quite a challenge, Toronto Dating Hub Founder and Dating Coach Andrea Lo explained
“The women who were here tonight told me it’s harder to find men who are their height and taller, and some men who are shorter might even be intimidated,” Lo told Now Toronto
So, for this edition of This is Dating Now, we asked tall Toronto daters what dating is like for them, and what brought them to this tall singles mixer
’It’s a mission dating in 2026’: Tall women share their experiences
For 5’11” dater Yasmin T., dating has been challenging
“It’s been rough as a tall person to find a date who’s my height. I don’t particularly mind shorter guys, but I feel like they mind. So I find that I’m going out of my way to be courteous and not wear heels,” she told Now Toronto. “It’s a mission dating in 2026.”
But attending this tall daters event is giving Yasmin the confidence to date with heels
“I feel confident. I wanted to wear my kitten heels, and everybody’s looking great. I’m happy to be here,” Yasmin said
“It makes my heart so happy just walking around, seeing all these tall people,” she added
Alyssa K., who is 5’10”, shares a similar experience
“As a taller woman, I think not all men are necessarily interested in being with taller women, especially if we’re more confident. I think they can sometimes be intimidated by that,” she shared
Alyssa’s open and comfortable dating someone shorter than her, but admits it’s not for everyone
At the event, she’s embracing her height and hoping to find someone, too
“I love being tall. I’ve always been tall, and it’s something that I wouldn’t change for myself,” she shared
Christina M., at 6’2″, says she’s in the same boat as the rest, but had her “eye on someone” during the night and hopes it’ll eventually translate into marriage
“I generally like to go for someone at least 6”1 and taller, someone with a great personality and a kind heart, but it’s been really tough,” Christina said. “So this event has been great for me to meet guys that are taller than me, and see females who are in the same boat as me.”

Six-foot-tall Toronto dater Mario G. says he actively seeks taller women
“It’s just a personal preference. I’ve been in relationships where there was a quite significant height gap, and those haven’t worked out well. So definitely looking for somebody that’s close to my height,” he told Now Toronto
Mario shares that it’s been tough to find taller women and that this event is helping him tailor his dating pool to them

After seeing an influencer’s video from a previous tall singles mixer hosted by a different dating company, in which the influencer said there weren’t enough tall men at the event, Lo decided to host one of her own
So, Lo purposefully chose to host the event in the summertime, when people are a bit freer, to help Toronto daters find love and new connections
The dating expert gathered her network of tall daters and invited any other tall singles interested in attending the event
“We definitely hope for romantic connections, but we always encourage platonic connections. We’ve had marriages that come out of our events, but we really want people to come out of their shell, push themselves outside their comfort zone,” Lo said
Especially in the midst of a dating app era, Lo emphasized the importance of meeting people in real life
“There’s a lot of ghosting, and especially coming out of COVID, people appreciate personal connections, the thirst for meeting in person,” she said. “A lot of people are bad at texting, and it actually gets in the way of meeting people.”
So, through this event, daters can be more “bubbly and a little more flirty” in this safe but fun space, Lo shared
