    Google Digital Wellbeing Guidebook

Google India and YouTube have launched the Digital Wellbeing Guidebook for Indian Families, a free re Healthcare, parenting advocates, and celebrity parents. The initiative aims to help Indian families move beyond debates around screen-time limits and instead build healthier digital habits through practical, evidence-backed guidance

According to Google, the guidebook has been tailored specifically for Indian households, taking into account the country’s unique digital landscape where smartphones are used for education, entertainment, communication, and financial transactions. Rather than encouraging strict restrictions, the guide promotes collaborative approaches that help parents and children establish healthy technology habits together

    Practical guidance for Indian families

The guidebook has been created with inputs from mental health, education, and child development specialists. It encourages parents to replace sudden device restrictions with structured conversations and shared family rules around technology use. The res, setting up tech-free spaces at home, and making parents active participants in their children’s digital lives

Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Professor of Clinical Psychology at NIMHANS’ SHUT Clinic, noted that technology-related conflicts in Indian homes often begin with abrupt restrictions, which may leave children feeling isolated. He said families should instead adopt collaborative strategies to establish healthy boundaries around digital devices

    Focus on local digital challenges

The guidebook also addresses several challenges that are particularly relevant to Indian families. It provides recommendations for balancing screen time with academics, acknowledging that digital platforms have become important learning tools for students preparing for school and competitive examinations

Recognising that many households share a single smartphone or tablet, the guide suggests using features such as YouTube’s “Who’s Watching” profiles to improve child safety while maintaining adult privacy. It also highlights tools that can help families improve digital literacy and protect themselves from online financial scams

Experts and parents support the initiative

Google said the initiative brings together healthcare professionals and parenting advocates who believe healthy digital habits begin with parents setting the right example. Actor Soha Ali Khan highlighted the importance of limiting phone use during meals and family time, while actor Neha Dhupia said children learn better when parents guide them instead of simply taking devices away

The Digital Wellbeing Guidebook is available as a free download through Google’s website. Along with the guidebook, parents and educators can also access conversation starters and interactive reat home
