Google India and YouTube have launched the Digital Wellbeing Guidebook for Indian Families, a free re Healthcare, parenting advocates, and celebrity parents. The initiative aims to help Indian families move beyond debates around screen-time limits and instead build healthier digital habits through practical, evidence-backed guidance
The guidebook has been tailored specifically for Indian households, taking into account the country’s unique digital landscape where smartphones are used for education, entertainment, communication, and financial transactions. It has been created with inputs from mental health, education, and child development specialists
The guidebook encourages parents to replace sudden device restrictions with structured conversations and shared family rules around technology use. The res, setting up tech-free spaces at home, and making parents active participants in their children’s digital lives
The guidebook also addresses several challenges that are particularly relevant to Indian families. It provides recommendations for balancing screen time with academics, acknowledging that digital platforms have become important learning tools for students preparing for school and competitive examinations
The guide also suggests using features such as YouTube’s “Who’s Watching” profiles to improve child safety while maintaining adult privacy. It also highlights tools that can help families improve digital literacy and protect themselves from online financial scams
