The Ministry of Health and Welfare is preparing to launch a “health coin” program in October to reward healthy lifestyle choices with gifts and possibly discounts on life insurance policies, Health Promotion Administration (HPA) Director-General Shen Ching-fen (沈靜芬) said today
The initiative is seeking to partner with four major convenience store chains to allow participants to exchange accumulated health coins in the “My Health Bank” portal for rewards such as sugar-free soymilk, chicken breasts, eggs and healthy bento boxes, she said
The agency is also in discussion with life insurance providers to assess the possibility of allowing participants to use records of healthy behaviors — such as preventive healthcare, health examinations and cancer screenings — as supporting evidence for insurers to assess eligibility for discounts, she said

The HPA is currently finalizing plans, while the Presidential Office’s Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee is to discuss the health coin program and receive a report this month, Shen said
The agency would then report to the Executive Yuan next week, she added
