Va. (WDBJ) – High-protein diets are currently popular, but research from the University of Wisconsin-Madison indicates many people are consuming more protein than they need — particularly those who are sedentary. Researchers said a protein-restricted diet could improve metabolism and promote healthy aging

Participating in group exercise and social activities could lower the risk of cognitive disability, according to a study conducted in Japan. Researchers looked at older adults and found those who regularly participated in group events at community gathering places had half the risk of cognitive disability compared to those who did not. The study’s authors said community exercise activities provide mental as well as physical benefits for elderly people

A Stanford University study found that the words children use could be used to predict mental health problems later in life. Researchers examined children ages 9 to 13 as they talked about stressful events and discovered speech patterns in some children that correlated with developing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety as teenagers. Researchers said more study is needed, but the findings could be used to predict mental health risk years in advance
