Kan. – Hutchinson Community College will conduct an emergency preparedness training exercise on its main campus on Wednesday, September 2, at approximately 9:55 a.m
The exercise, conducted in partnership with the Hutchinson Police Department, is part of the College’s ongoing efforts to prepare students, faculty, and staff for emergency situations
Members of the public may notice an increased law enforcement presence on campus during the exercise. Hutchinson Police officers will be participating in the training, which is expected to last approximately 20 minutes and involve several buildings on the main campus
As part of the realistic training scenario, simulated sounds of gunfire using blanks may be heard during the exercise. The College wants to make the campus community and surrounding public aware that this is a planned training exercise and not an actual emergency
Signs will also be posted on campus to notify visitors that a law enforcement training exercise is underway
The exercise will allow Hutchinson Community College, Campus Safety and local law enforcement to evaluate emergency response procedures and preparedness in a coordinated setting
Anyone who sees emergency personnel on campus or hears activity associated with the exercise on the morning of September 2 should be aware that it is part of the planned training
Hutchinson Community College appreciates the cooperation and understanding of students, employees, visitors and the community as it works with its law enforcement partners to help ensure a safe and prepared campus
