I Tried IV Ozone Therapy, The Bella Hadid

I’m the girl who once treated her body the way one might treat a vintage car—kept it running with the occasional oil change and a lot of denial about the weird noises. I grew up playing fast and loose with late nights, heavy sour cream diets, and lots of liquor (in Moscow, all of those things are technically legal for a 12-year-old).Recently, my general operating system has been somewhat sluggish and vaguely resentful: perpetual low-grade fatigue and that special metropolitan talent for feeling both wired and exhausted at once. Then IV ozone therapy re-entered my life, and my insides started functioning like they’d remembered there was a manual after all.The first time I encountered ozone was over a decade ago while my nurse friend was hosting her patients at home. The treatment looked like something from outer space. Then I started doing full intravenous ozone sessions* out of curiosity, and I even had her inject it directly into my gums with a dental needle during a particularly theatrical toothache. My friend handled it with the calm authority of someone who’d seen far stranger things, and I left with my tooth pain gone—a result I associated with the treatment. It worked then for straightforward repair. Years later, I circled back to the intravenous version purely for the systemic reset, which feels like the kind of full-circle moment that makes you question your life choices while simultaneously applauding them.*Despite its devoted following in some integrative medicine circles, the FDA has not approved ozone therapy for general wellness or most medical conditions.

    What Is Ozone?

Ozone (O3) isn’t your average active. Fans of ozone therapy believe it encourages the body to use oxygen more efficiently and supports repair processes throughout the body, though research into many of these claims is still evolving. My friend—the one with actual expertise—served as the touring ozone nurse for the Red Hot Chili Peppers years ago. “Ozone therapy is simply O3, three oxygen molecules, used to inject into the body to treat any range of illness or feelings of being unwell in the body. “It should never be inhaled,” she explains. (Ed note: While ozone therapy is used in some countries for various medical applications, it is not FDA-approved in the U.S. for most medical conditions.) She would arrive with her medical-grade setup and keep the band’s internal machinery humming through tours that operated on schedules designed by sadists. Anthony Kiedis and Flea swore by the intravenous ozone for recovery when the road tried its best to disassemble them from the inside out. They even worked it into a song. In “Can’t Stop,” that unmistakable line: “So smart, she’s leadin’ me to ozone.” The track always hits differently for me. I picture my friend, her long blonde hair and unflappable presence, calmly running IV ozone somewhere in Europe while guitars howled and the band powered through another marathon set. Rockstars doing biohacking before it had an actual term and hashtag? Now that’s rock and roll. While only recently celebrities like Bella Hadid and Justin Bieber have spoken about their IV ozone therapies, RHCP have always known what’s really real.

How IV Ozone Therapy Actually Works

Practitioners say intravenous ozone therapy is intended to enhance oxygen utilization and trigger mild oxidative stress that may stimulate the body’s adaptive responses, although evidence supporting these mechanisms in clinical practice remains limited. For someone whose everyday existence involved the usual urban cocktail of stress, recycled air, and questionable sleep patterns, it functions like a clarifying deep breath delivered straight into the bloodstream—hormetic stress that nudges mitochondria and circulation toward better performance rather than mere maintenance. For me, any internal changes also seemed to show up on my skin: I noticed a clearer complexion, no more random breakouts, and a general sense that the body is no longer quietly sabotaging its largest organ from the inside. My theory was that feeling less inflamed internally translated to calmer skin—less hormonal chaos manifesting as spots, better overall tone, and skin that recovers from ordinary urban insults without throwing a full tantrum. It’s not the primary reason I return to it, but it’s the kind of unasked-for bonus that makes you nod appreciatively at your reflection..I approached this latest round with the pragmatism of someone who already knew its medical pedigree. No theatrical leaps, just steady integration into a routine that had otherwise grown predictably worn around the edges. I recently had an accident while trail riding on horseback. In summary, a wiley e-bike rider scared my equine friend and I ended up getting bucked off gruesomely (PSA: Please do not ride a bike where signs say “NO BIKES ALLOWED”.)  I wanted something in addition to conventional medical care…

    My Schedule

I scheduled a morning or midday session 1–3 times weekly during the intense phases: A straightforward IV ozone appointment—major autohemotherapy, where your blood is drawn, mixed with precise medical-grade ozone, and returned to you through IV. Thirty to forty-five minutes of quiet efficiency. I usually do the ten-pass approach, which just means more O3, I bring a book or stare into the middle distance contemplating existence and surreality, then depart with a subtle sense of upgraded internal traffic flow. Back in the day, I had a syringe of what looked like just air going straight into my arm. Yes, I was afraid of a pulmonary embolism, but I quickly got over my fears and got used to this method. My Weekly Protocol: One dedicated IV session, sometimes combined with minor variations in concentration based on how the body is responding. The process feels less like a trendy treatment and more like sending your blood on a brief vacation to The Rainforest before welcoming it home refreshed.Integration into Regular Life: I pair the treatment with ordinary habits—no downtime or elaborate rituals required. For me, the effects felt gradual rather than dramatic. In my experience, the first week brought a noticeable drop in that background inflammatory hum. By week three, sustained energy appeared without the usual afternoon crash. By month two, recovery from ordinary stressors felt less like negotiation and more like default setting. My body simply operated with little-to-no complaint.

    My Results

What no one quite prepares you for with IV ozone therapy is how it reframes the conversation from surface-level fixes to deeper operational competence. It doesn’t promise superhuman feats or effortless immortality. For me, it felt less about chasing optimization and more about feeling like my body was operating with a little more ease—better oxygenation, reduced systemic drag, a resilience that makes ordinary days feel less like negotiations.I haven’t abandoned my Nekohama matcha or the occasional dramatic sigh over work delays. Some weeks still demand strategic recovery, but ozone reminded me that the body can function like a reasonably competent adult rather than a machine perpetually one step from revolt. It feels more like me now, only better calibrated for the circus of daily life.
