Two Kenai Peninsula hospitals have been recognized for their commitment to advancing quality care for patients with heart disease and stroke
Central Peninsula Hospital and South Peninsula Hospital were among nine Alaskan hospitals that were highlighted by the American Heart Association through the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement programs
More than 3,000 hospitals nationwide take part in these efforts that help ensure patients receive care aligned with the most up-to-date, research-based treatment guidelines
Participation in Get With The Guidelines has been associated with better patient outcomes, fewer readmission, and lower mortality, according to the American Heart Association. The programs have also been shown to reduce disparities in care for several populations
“When someone experiences a heart attack or stroke, every moment matters,” said Chrissy Colucci, American Heart Association – Alaska executive director. “These Alaska hospitals are taking meaningful steps to strengthen care, improve outcomes and give more people the chance to return home to the lives and people they love.”
Alaska hospitals that were recognized this year include: Central Peninsula Hospital; South Peninsula Hospital; Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium; Alaska Regional Hospital; Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation, Kanakanak Hospital; Fairbanks Memorial Hospital; Mat-Su Regional Medical Center; Providence Alaska Medical Center; and Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center
According to the American Heart Association 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics report, heart disease and stroke are the number one and number four causes of death in the country, respectively. The association added that these conditions require swift and proven treatment to achieve the best outcomes
“Through Get With The Guidelines, hospitals use real‑time data, clinical best practices and performance feedback to improve adherence to evidence‑based care for conditions such as stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, cardiac arrest and coronary artery disease,” the association stated
Since its launch over 20 years ago, millions of patient records have contributed to registries that help drive research and real-world improvements to cardiovascular care
