Lagos health workshop equips participants with practical tools for better diabetes management

What began as a one-day health workshop in Lagos may become a recurring platform for diabeteseducation as NUCLE Limited launched The Recovery Room 1.0, its first physical wellness event aimed at helping people better understand life beyond a diabetes diagnosis
The event held on Saturday, July 18, at Gowon Estate, Egbeda, brought together 29 registered participants for a morning of education, wellness activities, nutrition demonstrations, and health screenings under the theme Beyond Medication. The workshop was organised by NUCLE Limited, a health and wellness company led by certified clinical nutritionist Mrs. Linda Chikaodi Austin
Speaking about the motivation behind the initiative, Austin said she had repeatedly encountered individuals who were diagnosed with diabetes, prescribed medication, and then left to navigate the condition with little understanding of the lifestyle adjustments necessary for long-term management. She said the workshop was developed to address that knowledge gap by offering practical information that participants could immediately apply in their daily lives
The programme included sessions explaining diabetes and itseffects on the body, guided physical wellness exercises, free blood sugar testing, and nutrition education focused on healthy eating habits and portion control. Participants also took part in a diabetes-friendly dining experience that challenged common misconceptions about foods suitable for people living with the condition
Unlike traditional health seminars that rely primarily on lectures, the workshop emphasised practical learning through demonstrations and interactive participation. The organisers said the goal was not only to provide information but also to help attendees experience healthy lifestyle choices in a supportive environment
Attendance at the event was free, with registration serving as the only requirement. According to the organisers, the response from participants reflected a strong demand for accessible community-based health education. Many attendees reportedly expressed appreciation for the opportunity to receive practical guidance in addition to medical information, with several describing the experience as reassuring and empowering
For NUCLE, the workshop represents the beginning of a broader public health initiative rather than a standalone event. The company announced that The Recovery Room will now be held every quarter, with future editions expected to address additional chronic health conditions beyond diabetes
The organisers say the long-term vision is to build a community where individuals living with chronic illnesses have access to accurate information, practical support, and ongoing education that complements medical treatment. Following what they described as a successful inaugural edition, preparations are expected to begin for Recovery Room 2.0 as the initiative continues to expand its reach
