Bangkok’s business travellers are about to gain a very large new reason to linger in Bangna
Happitat, a 200,000m² lifestyle destination in Bangkok’s Bangna district, is opening on 21 August 2026. The project comes from Axtra, part of Thai conglomerate CP Group, and joins a roster of shopping centers that have made Bangkok synonymous with mega malls in recent years
Bangna may already be a familiar location to anyone attending events at the Bangkok International Trade & Events Centre (BITEC), one of Thailand’s largest exhibition and convention centres, or passing through en route to Suvarnabhumi Airport
Big on Bliss
Happitat is masterplanned by Foster + Partners – the London firm behind Apple Park and, closer to home, The Forestias in Bangkok. They worked on the project alongside Thai landscape architects TK Studio and environmental consultancy Atelier Ten, whose past projects include Jewel Changi Airport and the Museum of Modern Art’s expansion
The site sits on the edge of a 48,000m² urban forest, and the development uses AI-enabled cameras that read visitor expressions to generate a real-time “Happiness Index.” Axtra calls Happitat the “world’s first destination dedicated to happiness.”
Dining, Event & Retail Space
More than 100 restaurants and cafés sit across the site, including Vuur by Dutch chef Jacob Jan Boerma and a new concept from Thai chef Thaninthorn Chantrawan under his Chim portfolio, whose restaurant has held a Michelin star for nine consecutive years
Lumis Theatre Hall seats around 400 people and is built for concerts, theatrical productions and corporate events, adding a potential off-site venue option for groups already in Bangkok for meetings or exhibitions at BITEC
On the retail side, Axtra Club is a membership-based concept pairing curated products with a dining programme from Chef Willment Leong, Global Master Chef and Asia director of the World Association of Chefs’ Societies. Happitat is also introducing a reimagined 7-Eleven format, built exclusively for the site and reworking the convenience-store model
Wellness and Amenities
Happitat includes a rooftop swimming pool, pickleball courts, a 500m² premium supermarket concept from Lotus’s, and a 150m² pet park
Wellness operators on site include Kaew Pilates Studio, Flex Rehab, Setai Exclusive, Sarang Hair, Hana Studio and The Loft Clinic, covering pilates, physiotherapy, hair and skin treatments
Bangkok Loves Malls
Happitat is the latest to join a crowded field of recent Bangkok mall openings
Central Park Mall, an eight-storey lifestyle destination connected to Sala Daeng BTS, opened in Silom in September 2025 with its own rooftop garden and pet-friendly zones
Emsphere opened on Sukhumvit Road in December 2023 with a 24-hour food hall, while the iconic mega mall Siam Paragon added a 20,000 sqm luxury wing the same year
