Miranda Kerr is no stranger to the spotlight, but the supermodel’s latest comments about her highly restrictive diet have sparked an unexpected wave of backlash—with dietitians also weighing in on some of the claims she made about food and health

During the Tuesday, Aug. 4, episode of Let’s Be Honest withKristin Cavallari, Kerr opened up about her six-year battle with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a common condition that affects the digestive system, and explained how the experience changed the way she approaches food

“I love food, but when I got sick, I had to learn even more that food is medicine,” Kerr said. “And so I love to have nutritious and delicious foods, like, that feed my soul. But at the same time, I don’t crave unhealthy food anymore because I know how detrimental that can be to my body on the inside.”

Miranda Kerr Shares Her Unusual Diet

The 43-year-old emphasized that she cares more about how she feels than how she looks

“I think that’s more important than what you look like,” she said. “It’s so much more important that you feel that vitality, and that’s why I say my non-negotiables are meditation. Like, I’m doing that instead of working out, I guess you could say, with the busy life that I have right now, but that’s the choice that I make because that’s what feeds me.”

When it comes to breakfast, Kerr said she skips several common staples

“I don’t do eggs,” she said. Instead, she explained that she gets her morning protein from meat

“So I eat all meats like venison, bison, lamb, turkey. I eat all the meats that aren’t mass-produced for the reasons that we all know.”

Miranda also revealed that she personally avoids several entire food groups

“For me personally, no dairy, no wheat and no eggs. And then I’m very specific about the oils. So only cooking with coconut oil or avocado oil; no seed oils. Olive oil is okay on salads, but not to cook with.”

The Kora Organics founder herself said she doesn’t eat bread or rice and instead gets carbohydrates from vegetables including “squash, carrots, and parsnips.” However, she excludes leafy greens like spinach and kale

Fish is also part of her diet, although she said she limits salmon because of concerns about mercury

“I do have a little bit of salmon, but not too much because of the mercury that’s in salmon,” Kerr said

She also revealed that she no longer eats sushi because of concerns about parasites

“I never eat sushi anymore because of parasites,” she said. “I used to live on sushi when I lived in New York until I learned.”

Miranda said she does still enjoy cau.”

    A Dietitian Reacts

That particular claim caught the attention of dietitians, including Jaclyn London, MS, RD, a New York City-based dietitian, consultant and author

In an Instagram post responding to the viral clip, London challenged Kerr’s reasoning for avoiding sushi while continuing to eat ca

“Respectfully, there’s no such thing as a cafish roe should worry you MORE, not less,” London wrote

London cited FDA guidance and research suggesting that fish roe can also carry parasites, noting that the FDA’s definition of fish includes roe and that salted ca

However, she stressed that the actual risk is low

“That said, the ACTUAL risk from either is low,” London explained. “U.S. law requires raw fish to be frozen first, which kills parasites before your yellowtail sashimi OR osetra ever reaches your plate.”

London also questioned Kerr’s decision to eliminate several food groups in the name of health

“No dairy, no wheat, no rice, no eggs. Honestly, why?” she wrote. “Absent an allergy, cutting entire food groups in the name of ‘health’ often backfires.”

She pointed out that some gluten-free alternatives can contain more refined grains, fat, or sodium than comparable whole-grain products, while some dairy substitutes may contain added sugar

London acknowledged that Kerr appears to prioritize whole foods, but argued that eliminating foods isn’t necessarily beneficial if the replacements aren’t nutritionally balanced

“Whatever you remove is only as good as what replaces it,” London wrote

She concluded that some elements of Kerr’s approach—such as eating protein at breakfast and getting fiber from vegetables—can be positive, while questioning the logic behind avoiding sushi because of parasites while considering ca

“Protein at breakfast and fiber from vegetables? Great. Skipping sushi for parasites while calling caups or raise their own cattle to eat well,” London said

Social Media Shares Their Thoughts On Miranda’s Diet

The Australian model’s comments also sparked plenty of discussion among fans, with some criticizing the restrictive nature of her diet and others bringing up unconfirmed speculation about whether she uses cosmetic treatments such as Botox or fillers

“They won’t eat all those foods because of this and that… but will happily have a neurotoxin (Botox) injected into their forehead. Go figure,” one person commented

Another joked, “Well, Orlando dodged a bison there,” referencing Kerr’s former husband, actor Orlando Bloom

“Super healthy?! Cough super disordered & restrictive,” another commenter wrote

Others took aim at her reported lifestyle and wealth, with one person joking, “To start this diet, marry a billionaire first,” referencing Kerr’s current husband, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel

While Miranda’s dietary choices may have helped her manage her own health following years of IBS symptoms, dietitians emphasize that there is no one-size-fits-all diet. Eliminating entire food groups is not automatically healthier, particularly when there is no diagnosed allergy, intolerance, or medical reason to do so

For anyone dealing with digestive symptoms or considering major dietary restrictions, it’s best to work with a qualified health professional to determine which foods are actually appropriate for their individual needs
