W.Va. (WDTV) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced $10.5 million in new grant funding he says is aimed at helping West Virginians who are out of work because of health issues get treatment and support so they can return to the workforce, including $2 million in programs for people who are in recovery
The money is being offered through the state’s Rural Health Transformation Program under an initiative called “Health to Prosperity.” State officials say the funding is part of more than $145 million made available to date through the Rural Health Transformation Program
In the release, the governor’s office said the grants are focused on two major issues it says can keep people from working: chronic health conditions and substance use disorder
About $8.5 million is available for “health-to-work” programs for people whose chronic health conditions have contributed to unemployment or ongoing work disruption. The release says proposed programs could address issues like diabetes, heart disease, respiratory illness and musculoskeletal conditions through coordinated care navigation, return-to-work planning, employer engagement and workplace accommodations
Another $2 million is being made available for recovery-focused return-to-work programs for people whose substance use disorder has contributed to unemployment or workforce disruption. The governor’s office said proposals may include peer recovery support, recovery navigation, coordination of treatment and recovery services, employer engagement and structured pathways back into employment
The governor’s office said both grant tracks are meant to connect healthcare, support services and employers to reduce barriers and help participants return to work and stay employed
Applications for both funding opportunities are due Monday, July 20, according to the release. Eligible applicants can find the solicitations through the state’s procurement and grants management system at wvOASIS.gov
