California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom paid out a whopping $200,000 for household staff alone in 2024, their just-released tax returns show, according to multiple reports
The presumed 2028 presidential hopeful and his filmmaker spouse brought in $1.39 million that year, with more than $1 million of that amount stemming from investments
The couple released four years’ worth of tax returns Fridayas federal investigators probe Siebel Newsom’s finances, according toThe New York Times
They got an extension for 2025 and intend to file that return in October, The Guardiansaid
The more than 700 pages of tax filings showed the pair paid nearly $200,000 in wages for household staff plus more for taxes on domestic help and babysitters in 2024, The Timesreported

In 2022, they donated $45,000 worth of Armani, which they estimated would be worth less than $5,000 at a thrift store, according to reports
The paperwork also revealed Siebel Newsom’s production company lost money, hemorrhaging about $37,000 in 2022 alone, while Siebel Newsom made a measly $11,700 profit from the venture that year. California’s First Partner has done much better beyond her film company, bringing in $150,000 from a nonprofit, The Representation Project, according to the reports
The family’s income was generally consistent but got a big boost in 2021, when they sold a home in Marin County for nearly $6 million, raking in about $800,000 from the transaction
That year the Newsoms — who typically donated between $40,000 and $67,000 to charity each year — took home $4.2 million and shelled out more than $1 million in federal and state taxes, a figure which jumped to about $2 million the following year, The Guardian reported
The Newsoms last released tax returns in 2022, posting them online, but this time forced reporters to go to the governor’s office and “take notes with pen and paper” as they pored over the documents, The Times noted
Most of the couple’s wealth comes from investments in the wine and hospitality industries, which they placed in a blind trust when Gavin Newsom was elected governor in 2018, the outlet reported
