The relief staff has now only gotten younger.
The Rangers selected right-handed pitcher Emiliano Teodo from Triple-A Round Rock and placed right-handed pitcher Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list prior to Sunday’s series finale vs. the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field. Teodo, the club’s No. 23 prospect in The Dallas Morning News’ system rankings, has a sinker that can reach triple digits and a high-leverage profile but must continue to harness his command to maximize its potential

He surged onto the immediate big league radar after a dominant camp last spring, but because of a bumpy adjustment to Triple-A and a back injury that cost him two months, he spent the entire season in the minor leagues. The 25-year-old has a 3.76 ERA in 40 2/3 innings this season but is still at times hampered by his own command. His 18.7% walk rate leads all Pacific Coast League pitchers who’ve thrown 40 or more innings, and since June 1, he’s walked as many batters as he’s struck out.
“He’s definitely made strides,” Round Rock pitching coach Dave Borkowski told The Dallas Morning News earlier this month. “He’s healthy, so he’s far more confident than he’s probably ever been, which goes a long way.”
The Rangers signed Teodo out of the Dominican Republic four years ago to a $10,000 bonus.
Martin, 40, has now taken three trips to the injured list this season because of a shoulder impingement. He’s been largely ineffective when healthy, too, and has a 9.00 ERA in 16 games. The Arlington native returned from the injured list last week and allowed a run in three of the four games he pitched before he was placed back on it.
