The Baltimore Ravens are bringing back a familiar face as training camp begins

Baltimore is signing veteran wide receiver Chris Moore, reuniting with one of its former draft picks after evaluating multiple experienced receivers during workouts. Moore was among the wideouts who tried out for the Ravens on reporting day, along with Sterling Shepard and Dante Pettis

The move gives Baltimore another veteran option in a receiver room that already has established roles at the top but remains unsettled near the bottom of the roster

Moore is well known inside the organization. The Ravens selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and he spent five seasons in Baltimore from 2016-20. During that stretch, Moore carved out a role as a depth receiver and core special teams contributor, giving the Ravens the type of roster versatility they have long valued

His return does not dramatically change the top of the depth chart. Zay Flowers remains Baltimore’s No. 1 receiver, while Rashod Bateman enters camp as the other established starter. Rookies Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt give the Ravens developmental size and upside, while Devontez Walker, LaJohntay Wester and others are competing for roles

    Moore’s path is different

At this stage of his career, his value comes from experience, reliability and special teams utility. He made 11 catches last season for the Washington Commanders, but Baltimore’s interest likely goes beyond offensive production. Moore understands the Ravens’ culture, has played in multiple NFL systems and can help stabilize the back end of a camp receiver group

The Ravens also looked at Shepard and Pettis before landing on Moore. Shepard had 34 catches last season with Tampa Bay, while Pettis had 19 receptions with Chicago. Baltimore ultimately chose the player with the most direct connection to the franchise

That familiarity could matter during a compressed training camp evaluation period

The Ravens do not need Moore to become a major target in Lamar Jackson’s offense. They need him to compete, provide dependable depth and push the younger receivers trying to earn roster spots. For a team with Super Bowl expectations, even bottom-of-the-roster decisions matter

Moore’s return gives Baltimore another known option as those decisions begin
