Saber Healthcare Group is expanding its footprint with the acquisition of 27 skilled nursing facilities from Ciena Healthcare across Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina, the company announced Monday
The expansion, which is one Saber’s largest transactions, deepens its presence in the three states. It includes seven facilities in North Carolina, four in Virginia and 16 in Ohio, totaling more than 3,000 licensed beds
“This is about strategic, disciplined growth,” Bill Weisberg, Saber’s president and founder, said in an emailed statement to Skilled Nursing News. “We’re entering markets where the need is real and where our clinical model and operating strengths will allow us to make an immediate difference. Ultimately, we grow where we can make an impact – and that begins and ends with the residents we serve.”
As part of an ongoing portfolio review, Saber also completed the divestiture of three Ohio facilities effective June 30: University Manor Health Care Center and Crawford Manor Health Care Center, both in Cleveland, and Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia. The move reflects efforts to align its portfolio with facilities and markets best suited to its long-term clinical and operational model, the company said
<strong>Integration already underway
Saber has already begun integrating operational systems, clinical protocols and workforce support initiatives to ensure a seamless transition for residents and their families across all 27 facilities, the company said
“This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to responsible, sustainable growth and our belief that more seniors deserve access to high-quality skilled nursing and rehabilitation care,” Weisberg noted in the press release. “We are honored to welcome the residents, families and dedicated caregivers of these 27 communities into the Saber family, and we look forward to supporting them with the ree.”
Saber Healthcare Group was established in 2001 and has grown to become one of the largest long-term care organizations in the country, providing back-office consulting and support services to 160 plus skilled nursing and assisted living affiliated facilities across five states – Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina. Saber-affiliated facilities will now care for more than 18,000 residents daily
“Our focus from day one has been continuity of care and stability for the people who live and work in these facilities,” Weisberg added. “We take that responsibility seriously and are committed to being strong partners to these communities for years to come.”
Weisberg spoke to SNN about his company’s early commitment to value-based care, highlighting the organization’s ability to care for higher-acuity patients and achieve better outcomes, citing its staffing levels, low readmission rates, shorter lengths of stay and strong clinical performance
