In the world of modern luxury hospitality, health and residential design, dull and uninspiring basement gyms are steadily being replaced by architecturally striking spaces

Many hotels and high-end gyms are shunning the once-popular cold black-and-chrome aesthetic in place of warmer, more tactile and sustainable materials in the design of their wellness spaces

That evolution has created a market for design-led fitness equipment that looks as considered as the interiors around it

If you’ve stayed in some of the best-known high-end hotels in the world – from Claridge’s and Raffles London at The OWO, to The Maybourne Beverly Hills in California and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore – there’s a good chance you’ve encountered Pent‘s handcrafted fitness equipment

The Evolution of the Luxury Gym

The photogenic, design-led pieces range from kettlebells and rollers to Pilates reformer machines and treadmills, all crafted from materials more commonly associated with luxury furniture than commercial gyms. You’d be forgiven for installing them in your home just to admire them

Founder and CEO Marcin Raczek created Pent with the aim of creating aspirational fitness equipment worthy of display rather than hidden in spare room or cupboard. Think of them as functional sculptures. And the same design philosophy extends beyond the gym, with the brand also producing sculptural audio equipment which are closer to artworks than the usual boxy speaker designs

That approach has attracted a clientele that reportedly includes elite athletes such as Man City striker Erling Haaland and LA Lakers basketball player LeBron James, who have equipment in their homes, along with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and actor Terry Crews. After all, if your home is furnished with Eames chairs or Fendi Casa sofas, you probably don’t want a rack of generic weights that jar with the aesthetic

The brand’s latest collection, created with the Muhammad Ali Estate, marks its first dedicated boxing-specific gym gear and represents a departure from its existing range

According to Raczek, “Our goal was never simply to place an iconic name on a product, but to create something worthy of the values Muhammad Ali stood for – strength, perseverance, authenticity, and timeless excellence. We are honored to contribute to keeping his legacy alive through products that reflect the same dedication to quality, craftsmanship and enduring design.”

    Inside the Collection

The Pent x Muhammad Ali collection is a limited-edition series of boxing gear, including hand-stitched leather gloves, a punch bag, a gym bag, a leather-encased skipping rope, alongside dumbbells, kettlebells and accessories

Prices start at around $170 (£128) for the toiletry bag and rise to almost $7,000 (£5,100) for the Strength Set of dumbbells and kettlebells, with the boxing gloves priced at around $530 (£390) and the punching bag at $2,020 (£1,500)

The inclusion of the signature of the former world heavyweight champion and civil rights campaigner is part of the brand’s transformation of functional fitness items into collectible pieces. Ali famously gave up the name Cassius Clay, which he described as his “slave name”, after joining the Nation of Islam and adopting the name Muhammad Ali

Along with his signature, some of his most famous quotes are woven throughout the collection. Perhaps his best-known quote, “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” which he used while building anticipation for his 1964 world heavyweight title fight against Sonny Liston, is stitched on each side of the boxing gloves. Similarly, the vintage-style exercise mat has “The Greatest of All Time” written across the bottom section

The collection is handcrafted from solid American walnut (which Pent says has natural antimicrobial properties), sustainably

    Fitness as Investment

The brand says it is seeing strong demand, with year-on-year revenue growth. It is also expanding beyond strength training into recovery, with minimalist cold plunge tubs, heated massage tables and sculptural LED lighting that doubles as reading lamps

Ultimately, the Muhammad Ali collection reflects a broader shift in luxury wellness. As home gyms become permanent design features rather than rooms to hide away, fitness equipment is increasingly expected to perform as both training tool and statement piece

The result is a collection that sits at the intersection of fitness, craftsmanship and interior design. As wellness spaces become more integrated into luxury homes, hotels and yacht designers alike, function alone is no longer enough
