Your classroom can be the space where your students unlock their potential, build their confidence and find their voices. Arts learning creates opportunities for students to discover what they’re capable of

The Song Room makes it easier to bring Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts into the classroom, while strengthening students’ critical and creative thinking, engagement, wellbeing and sense of belonging

    Why arts learning matters

The evidence for the benefits of arts learning has never been stronger

Research into The Song Room’s programs has demonstrated significant educational, social and emotional outcomes for students, including:

    • Reduced absenteeismby 65%
    • Improvements in academic outcomes, raising numeracy and literacy levels
    • Improved social and emotional wellbeing, including reducing anxiety, increased confidence, improved self-regulation and relationship building with peers and teachers
    • Stronger community connectionand engagement

Despite these outcomes, the education equity gap continues to grow, leaving too many children without access to these life-changing opportunities

    • 3 out of 4Australian schools do not have a specialist music teacher
    • 1.7 millionAustralian children miss out on access to a quality arts-enriched education
    • 3 in 10 children in our most disadvantaged communities are developmentally behind, missing an average of34 school days each year and facing a six-year learning gap by Year 9.

When creativity is part of the classroom, students have more opportunities to thrive in so many other areas of their learning

    A program for every school

The Song Room offers flexible programs across arts learning, student wellbeing, building teacher capacity and First-Nations focused programs that can be tailored to suit each school’s needs

    Years 5-6

    Duration: 2 Day Workshop

Primary Production is a hands-on two-day songwriting and music production experience that transforms the classroom into a professional recording studio

Students work alongside professional musicians, producers and The Song Room’s experienced Teaching Artists, to write, compose, record and produce an original song from scratch

Students develop communication, teamwork, creative problem-solving, and confidence as they bring a shared vision to life

“I learnt to express myself and take risks”

    “I didn’t think I could do this”

“I liked how we worked really well as a team together”

    • Participating Students, Meadow Heights Primary School, VIC (2026)

    Kaleidoscope

    Years 1-6

    Duration: 10 weeks

Kaleidoscope is a 10-week program that incorporates trauma-informed teaching practices and social and emotional learning pedagogies. Students strengthen wellbeing and social and emotional development through music, art, drama, dance, visual arts & performing arts

“We play music. I like to be loud! And it makes us feel really proud of ourselves and happy.”

    – Participating Student, 2022

    Deadly Arts

    Years 1-6

    Duration: 10 weeks

Deadly Arts is The Song Room’s First Nations-led program, co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, Elders, community member and local organisations

Through music, art, dance and storytelling, students explore First Nations histories, knowledge and culture. For First Nations students, Deadly Arts builds pride, identity and a stronger sense of belonging. For all students, it builds understanding, empathy and respect

“We did killer arts with Auntie Sammy in the Art Room every Tuesday. Every week there were great fun art activities that taught us about the history of our local Bunurong tribe. We made Ochre, used clay, designed shields, designed clap sticks, learnt symbols and identified native species. We would like to thank Auntie Sammy for teaching us so many valuable lessons, including many experiences from her own life and ancestors”

    – Participating Year 4 students, Redhill Consolidated Primary School

    DUET

    Years 1-6

    Duration: 10 weeks

DUET responds to one of the biggest challenges facing Australian primary schools: building teacher confidence and capability to deliver quality music education

Over 10 weeks, specialist Teaching Artists work alongside classroom teachers through in-class mentoring, co-planning and co-delivering curriculum-aligned music lessons

Teachers gain the skills, reooms long after the program ends

“My knowledge of music was very minimal but having (The Song Room) support really allowed me to understand the… music curriculum a lot better. I can’t really believe my learning areas. Before I kept on questioning if I was doing enough, but I’m actually feeling so empowered and enthusiastic about it, and the kids can see that.”

    • Orelia Primary School (NSW), Participating Classroom teacher (2025)

Partnering with schools for long-term impact

Every Song Room program is designed in partnership with schools, with curriculum alignment, teacher support, flexible delivery and accessible price points to suit each school community

The Song Room programs make it easier to embed arts learning in ways that are practical, sustainable and strengthen student wellbeing, engagement and learning

As schools plan for Term 4 and 2027, now is the time to bring meaningful creative learning into your classroom, with lasting impact for students and teachers
