Thousands of people in Sunderland are set to benefit from improved health and wellbeing support

It follows the City Council’s Cabinet approving £1.756 million funding for the Links for Life Sunderland programme

The scheme connects residents to activities and services, including coffee mornings, craft classes, and wellbeing support

It aims to tackle loneliness, build community connections and improve overall wellbeing

Councillor Jonathon Emerson, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and adult services at Sunderland City Council, said: “Links for Life is about the power of connection

“We know that having someone to talk to, feeling part of a community and being able to access the right support at the right time can make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing

“This investment will help more people across Sunderland connect to local activities, services and one another

“The programme has already made a positive difference to thousands of residents, and this continued investment will help strengthen the voluntary and community sector so it can continue providing the support and opportunities that people need to live healthier, happier and more connected lives.”

Links for Life Sunderland has supported nearly 15,000 people since its launch in 2023

The scheme promotes digital inclusion through Digital Health Hubs and features a community hub model

Funding will be delivered through grants, targeted neighbourhood investment, and support for community organisations

The £1.756 million will be funded by Sunderland City Council, a Healthy City Grant, and NHS contributions

The programme supports Sunderland’s Healthy City Plan by investing in community-led approaches that improve wellbeing
