CAIRO – 22 August 2026: As part of its ongoing health awareness efforts and commitment to protecting the health and safety of citizens, the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) launched its largest and most intensive awareness campaign across its official platforms under the hashtag #AskVACSERA, to answer common questions and concerns among the Egyptian public about vaccines and preventive serums.

VACSERA emphasized that vaccinations are not limited to childhood, as many believe, but are also crucial for the elderly and adults of all ages, given their vital role in boosting and strengthening the body’s immunity and directly protecting against the dangers and complications of severe infectious diseases.

In response to the direct question posed in its campaign, “Are there vaccines for adults?”, VACSERA clarified that the answer is “Yes, of course,” noting that with age or as a result of exposure to stress, fatigue, and various health factors, the body may experience a gradual decline in the efficiency of the immune system and its ability to fight infections.

Therefore, vaccines are a crucial first line of defense for maintaining vitality and activity, reducing hospital admissions, and minimizing the risk of severe infections.

6 major diseases protected by adult and elderly vaccinations

VACSERA highlighted a group of the most important vaccines recommended globally and locally for adults and the elderly, which directly and reliably help prevent a range of infectious and serious diseases.

    These include:

    1. Seasonal Influenza Vaccine: This is an essential annual vaccine for preventing severe influenza and reducing its systemic and acute respiratory complications.

    2. Meningococcal Vaccine: Designed to protect the nervous system and prevent meningitis and the serious complications associated with the bacterial or viral infection that causes it.

    3. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine: This poses a significant risk to the elderly and those with chronic diseases, as it can cause severe inflammation of the airways and lungs.

    4. Pneumonia Vaccination: These vaccines help protect the lungs from bacteria that cause severe pneumonia, which often requires intensive medical care.

    5. Hepatitis A and B Vaccination: This provides adequate protection for liver cells against viruses that cause chronic and acute infections that can develop into serious long-term health complications.

    6. Shingles Vaccination: This protects adults and the elderly from severe nerve pain and a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the virus that causes chickenpox within the body.

Special recommendations and guidelines for high-risk groups

Dr. Sherif El-Feel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA), indicated that adults can receive various vaccinations at different ages.

However, it is important to note that some vaccines are specifically recommended for certain groups based on age, general health status, or the presence of health risk factors such as: chronic diseases (like: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, and cancer).

Dr. Sherif El-Feel called on all citizens to pay attention to periodic check-ups and consult with specialist doctors or visit the company’s vaccination centers to learn about the vaccines appropriate for each health condition, stressing that its permanent slogan remains “#Vacsera #Prevention_Starts_with_Vaccination”, as early prevention represents the first and most important step towards building a healthy and sound society free of diseases.
