Good Day Oklahoma’s, Chloe Boudames, sits down with Dr. Kesinger of Integris to talk about the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program
What is it?
-A new Medicare program launched on July 1, 2026
-Runs through December 31, 2027
-Provides eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries access to certain weight-loss medications for $50 per month
What medications are covered?
-Foundayo (oral)
-Wegovy (injection and oral tablet)
-Zepbound KwikPen (injection)
Who qualifies?
-The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program is designed to expand access to GLP-1 medications for people seeking treatment solely for weight loss or weight maintenance
-Eligible beneficiaries must be:
-Age 18 or older with a BMI of 35 or higher when treatment begins, or
-Age 18 or older with a BMI of 27.5 or higher and at least one qualifying high-risk condition, including:
-Prediabetes
-Previous heart attack or stroke
-Heart failure
-Symptomatic peripheral artery disease
–Chronic kidney disease
Who is not eligible?
-Beneficiaries are not eligible if their medication is already covered under Medicare Part D for:
-Type 2 diabetes
-Obstructive sleep apnea
-Noncirrhotic metabolic steatohepatitis (MASH)
