Nev. (KOLO) -Sparks mayor and Regional Transportation representatives ask for drivers and businesses on Sparks Boulevard to hang on
For the last year drivers who use Sparks Boulevard frequently no doubt experience long lines, lane changes and even lane closures
The good news is this is only going to last one more year. Construction began on a new and improved Sparks Boulevard last August. This road is used by local residents
But also, as a thoroughfare for those living in the north valleys
“It’s just making this commute easier,” says Ed Larson, Sparks Mayor. “You know we get a lot of pressure from the North Valleys from people that don’t even live in Sparks, that take Sparks Boulevard down to get to work. So, it is important for everybody to use it. That’s why it’s an RTC project because it is truly a regional transportation corridor.”
Larson says he’s received calls from drivers about the backups
He’s also heard from businesses in the area who say at times it’s not easy getting to them. The mayor says he’s met with them and emphasized this is only temporary and they will be happy with the results in the end
Larson says added benefits besides extra lane are bike paths and pedestrian paths
The project is not just for better vehicle flow, but also water flow. Drainage is also part of this project
But no doubt that will go unrecognized as drivers head down the road
“You are going to experience a great roadway,” says Dale Keller, RTC Deputy Executive Director. “It’s going to be smooth, it’s going to be safe, and it’s going to get you where you want to go.”
Provided there are no unanticipated delays or cost overruns, the Sparks Boulevard project will cost $86,000,000 dollars; paid for by federal funds
