The Miami Dolphins head into their 2026 training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster: Malik Willis, Quinn Ewers, Cam Miller, and rookie Mark Gronowski. According to a report from NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson, they may not be done tinkering with the group. According to Wilson, Miami is expected to workout free agent quarterback Jack Plummer next week

Plummer, who went undrafted out of Louisville in 2024, spent most of his rookie season on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. After sitting out for the 2025 season, Plummer joined the Orlando Storm of the United Football League in 2026, throwing 2,188 yards with 17 touchdowns, one interception, and a 104.2 passer rating. His passing yards and rating were both league highs, while his passing touchdowns were the second most in the league

The San Francisco 49ers had a workout with Plummer earlier this week

Plummer, no relation to former Pro Bowl quarterback Jake Plummer, started his college career at Purdue for four years before transferring to California. He transferred again a year later, finishing his last season at Louisville. He led Louisville to the 2023 ACC Championship game, losing to Florida State, and the Holiday Bowl, losing to USC

If Plummer impresses in his workout, he could find himself in competition with Ewers, Miller, and Gronowski for a backup role behind presumed starter Willis. The Dolphins’ general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has said his ideal is to “invest” in the quarterback position every year, with the team looking to draft a quarterback every year or two. The team did not select a passer in this year’s draft, but it appears the team is not done looking for players at the position
