KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WCYB) —As Tennessee men’s basketball nears the end of its summer workout schedule, head coach Rick Barnes said leadership is beginning to take shape on a roster filled with new faces
The Volunteers have undergone significant roster turnover entering the 2026-27 season, forcing players to adjust to a new system while learning the expectations of Barnes and his coaching staff. As the summer has progressed, Barnes said several veteran players have started to embrace larger leadership roles
“When you bring as many guys in as we have this year, and it’s all new to each one of them every single day, they’re trying to figure out <a href="https://healthylife7.com/what-you-need-to-know-about-legionella-legionnaires-disease/” title=”What you need to know about Legionella/Legionnaire’s Disease”>what‘s coming today,” Barnes said. “I think the more that we’ve gone through this, the older guys, whether it’s Terrence or Troy’s a guy that we’re expecting to do that too, and he has done it from the sideline. Those guys start realizing, ‘I can do this.'”
Barnes pointed to veteran guard Terrence Brown and forward Troy Henderson as players helping guide the team’s newcomers through the transition. While Henderson has been limited to working from the sideline, Barnes said he has still found ways to provide leadership and set an example for his teammates
The Volunteers will continue offseason workouts before officially opening preseason practice later this year as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign
