After leading the Bears to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2020, Caleb Williams is expecting bigger things this year thanks in part to a change in his physique
Speaking to reporters following Wednesday’s training camp practice, Williams revealed better eating and sleeping habits helped him lose 10-15 pounds that he expects will help him “move a little bit better” and “be smoother” on the field

The Bears’ official website lists Williams weight at 226 pounds, so a drop of 10-15 pounds would put him between 210-215. He is roughly in line with his weight from the 2024 NFL scouting combine when he tipped the scales at 214 pounds
Per Mockdraftable, Williams’ combine weight ranked in the 26th percentile among quarterbacks. ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum noted in November 2025 the average weight for an NFL quarterback was 222 pounds
Williams’ mobility is an essential part of his game because of how long he holds onto the football. He was one of only two quarterbacks, along with Brock Purdy, last season with a time to throw over 3.00 seconds and at least 300 offensive plays
The 24-year-old ran for 388 yards and three touchdowns on 77 rushing attempts in 2025
Last season was a learning process for Williams in his first season playing in head coach Ben Johnson’s system. He responded by throwing for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns
Williams’ accuracy remains a work-in progress after he had the third-highest bad throw rate in the NFL, but the overall playmaking ability helped lead the Bears to an NFC North title and a playoff win over the Green Bay Packers
The Bears also took the Los Angeles Rams to overtime in the NFC Divisional Round before losing 20-17 on Harrison Mevis’ game-winning field goal
A more well-rounded version of Williams in his third NFL season could elevate the Bears into being a Super Bowl contender
