S.C. (WBTV) – A deputy reportedly died during a training exercise in South Carolina this week
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Jillian Olson died during an underwater training session at Lake Murray on Thursday, July 30. She was 29 years old
The sheriff’s office did not say exactly what happened during the exercise but said authorities from multiple state agencies were investigating. The Lexington County coroner was also investigating
Olson was reportedly hired in 2021 and joined the dive team in 2024. She worked her way up to a master deputy position in the sheriff’s office’s warrant division, and was once named the “outstanding judicial services deputy of the year.”
“Our hearts are broken by the loss of a valuable member of the Sheriff’s Department,” Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release. “Jillian exemplified commitment and service. She faithfully carried out her duties and selflessly worked to make those around her better.”
“Jillian’s dedication to her community and department is well-documented with awards and recognitions,” Koon continued. “She’ll be most remembered for what she did with no fanfare.”
