VASA Fitness set to open in former Collins Road Hy-Vee (FILE)
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa —A new fitness center is expected to open this fall in the former Hy-Vee store on Collins Road Northeast in Cedar Rapids
VASA Fitnessis converting the approximately 63,000-square-foot building at 279 Collins Road NE, near Lindale Mall, into its first Cedar Rapids location. The company’s website lists the club as coming soon, and the company has said it expects to open in late September
The former Hy-Vee store opened in 1985 and closed in January 2022. The building has remained vacant since then
The new club is expected to include cardio and weight–training areas, free weights, Olympic lifting and functional training space. Plans also call for group fitness studios, an indoor pool, basketball court, hot tub, cold plunge, sauna, steam room and locker rooms
VASA Fitness also plans to offer personal training, massage and light therapy services, as well as child care
The Cedar Rapids location will be less than a half-mile from the Planet Fitness inside Lindale Mall. VASA Fitness has more than 70 locations across several states, according to the company
Memberships for the Cedar Rapids location are being promoted online starting at $14.99 a month. VASA Fitness’ Cedar Rapids page lists the club as not yet open
