CINCINNATI —
A 14-year-old boy is on life support after being shot in the face Tuesday evening in East Price Hill, shortly after leaving a boxing class at Lord’s Gym
“I just wanted to get to know him. I was just talking to him and a couple hours later, he got shot,” Alex Ortiz, a high school boxer at Lord’s Gym, said

Henri Lo, the teen chaplain at Lord’s Gym, said the teenager has been enjoying the classes
“The sad thing is like he had come to two practices, he’d really been enjoying it and we were really excited about what the program could do for him,” Lo said
The teen’s grandmother said he and other boys were throwing rocks at a vacant house when someone came out with a gun and the shooting happened
News spread quickly among the gym’s community
Kahji Carter said, “I found out it was real and I was just shocked.”
Dorian Cody said, “It’s crazy, we was just with him. I never thought it’d happen to him though.”
Lo added, “Wednesday when they came in, they were super shaken up, they told me they couldn’t sleep, they were constantly thinking about him.”
Lord’s Gym, located on Warsaw Avenue, is just a 10-minute walk from where the shooting occurred. The boxing program was reinstated this year after finding a coach and has welcomed an eager crowd of kids as the new school year begins
“Part of the reason we started the program was because of gun violence and then day two of a kid that’s in our program gets shot, I mean you can’t make it up. We’re not going to stop, we’re going to keep growing the program, we’re going to keep providing a safe place. We’re hopeful, we’re praying he’s going to make a strong recovery, and then, you know, God willing maybe he can even come back someday,” Lo said
The teen’s family said the bullet exited through his neck and he is being kept on a breathing tube at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Despite a SWAT presence following the shooting, police have not made any arrests or shared details about potential suspects
