U.S. News & World Report released its latest rankings of best hospitals in the country, and a number of Texas hospitals made the top ten for various specialties, from cancer care to neurology.
The report also ranks the top hospitals overall in each state, with two Dallas hospitals ranking among the top five in Texas
The 2026-2027 rankings were publicly released late Monday night. The annual report is in its 37th year, according to a news release

Here are the highlights for Texas
Best hospitals in Texas
The newly released report includes rankings of the “Best Regional Hospitals” for each state, based on hospitals’ performance across a number of specialties, procedures and conditions. Thirty-eight Texas hospitals were rated highly enough to be included on the state’s list
The five best hospitals in Texas are located in Dallas and Houston, according to the rankings

No. 1: Houston Methodist Hospital was named the best hospital in Texas overall in this year’s rankings, a title the hospital earned in last year’s report, too. Houston Methodist also ranked in the top 10 nationally in several specialties
No. 2: UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas came in second across the state. UT Southwestern was named second-best in the state — and first in Dallas-Fort Worth — in last year’s report, too. The medical center was also ranked nationally in numerous specialties
No. 3 (tie): Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital tied for the third spot for Texas’ best hospitals. That puts two Dallas-Fort Worth hospitals in the top five in the state
No. 5: Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston came in fifth for Texas’ best hospitals. That totals three Houston-area hospitals in the top five for the state

Texas hospitals ranked nationally
In addition to the regional and state rankings, the newly released report also lists the nation’s best hospitals in various specialties, from cancer to psychiatry.

Here are the Texas hospitals that ranked in the top 10 in the nation for specialty care:

- The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston was ranked No. 1 in the nation for cancer care. The hospital was also ranked No. 6 in the nation for urology.
- TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston ranked No. 4 in the nation for rehabilitation.
- Houston Methodist Hospital ranked No. 5 in the nation for gastroenterology and GI surgery. The hospital also ranked No. 7 in the nation for obstetrics and gynecology and No. 10 in the nation for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery.
- Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation-Dallas ranked No. 9 in the nation for rehabilitation.
- UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas ranked No. 9 in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery.
