CAIRO – 15 August 2026: Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation for Facilitating Hajj, announced that applications are now open for members of civil society organizations wishing to perform Hajj during the 1448 AH – 2027 AD season

Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, August 18, through Monday, August 31. Morsi stressed that applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered

Eligible NGOs and institutions will nominate members wishing to perform Hajj, provided they meet the required conditions

For NGOs, nominees must be registered members of the organization’s general assembly at the time of application and have paid their annual membership dues, whether as full or associate members. In the case of institutions, nominees must be members of the board of trustees or founders

Applicants must not have performed Hajj previously. Successful applicants’ eligibility will be verified after the lottery results are announced through the submission of their travel records

Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, said applicants must be legally competent to perform the Hajj rituals and must be Egyptian citizens. Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of January 28, 2027, corresponding to 20 Sha’ban 1448 AH. An exception applies to those accompanying a parent, who must be at least 18 years old. Women under the age of 45 are not required to be accompanied by a male guardian (mahram)

Applicants over the age of 75 must have a companion. For applicants with physical or visual disabilities who require assistance, the companion must be of the same gender, as confirmed by a medical report issued by an approved hospital, in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s requirements

    Medical Conditions Ineligible for Hajj

Dr. Maya Morsi also noted that individuals with certain medical conditions will not be eligible to apply for Hajj, as they are considered at higher risk of infection and complications, in accordance with the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s guidelines

    These conditions include:

    • Kidney failure requiring dialysis.
    • Pulmonary fibrosis.
    • Morbid obesity.
    • Advanced heart, blood vessel, or liver cirrhosis diseases.
    • Active cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or biological treatment.
    • Pregnant women during the final three months of pregnancy, as well as high-risk pregnancies at any stage.
    • Mental or psychological disorders that impair cognitive abilities.
    • Alzheimer’s disease and senility accompanied by dementia.
    • Active infectious diseases that pose a public-health risk in crowded settings, including open pulmonary tuberculosis and hemorrhagic fevers.
