Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO), the Danish obesity-drug giant behind Wegovy and Ozempic, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/novo-ceo-says-obesity-market-wont-be-winner-take-all-battle-with-lilly-2026-08-13/?utm_source=chatgpt.com” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>slipped approximately 1% Thursday morning as CEO Mike Doustdar tried to reset the market’s thinking about the obesity race. His pitch: stop treating Novo versus Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) like a winner-takes-all fight. The obesity market could top $100 billion annually by 2030, and different patients will want different drugs, delivery methods and trade-offs. For Novo, that is more than a talking point. It is the heart of the comeback story after Lilly’s Zepbound grabbed momentum and forced investors to question Novo’s old leadership position.

And Novo still has ammunition. Doustdar told Reuters that oral Wegovy already controls roughly 90% of the oral GLP-1 market. Even bigger, he thinks pills could eventually take around half of the overall market, versus Novo’s earlier view that oral drugs could exceed one-third of GLP-1 use by 2030. That could be huge. More than 100 million U.S. adults are classified as obese, so Novo does not need one blockbuster injection to crush every rival. It needs a deep lineup that can win different slices of an enormous market. Oral Wegovy gives it an early beachhead, while CagriSema gives it another shot at keeping patients inside the Novo franchise.

But the market is demanding proof, not promises. CagriSema delivered roughly 23% average weight loss in clinical testing, trailing the more than 25% cited for Lilly’s Zepbound, yet Novo still aims to launch the drug next year. That makes the stock’s valuation gap especially striking

At $45.93, Novo trades 57.74% below its GF Value estimate of $108.68. That looks dirt cheap on the chart, but the discount is also screaming skepticism. Investors are pricing in a bruising fight with Lilly. If oral Wegovy keeps dominating its category and CagriSema proves it can carve out a meaningful patient base, that gap could become very interesting. If not, cheap can stay cheap for a long time
