UMSOP Faculty Member Named President-Elect of International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology

Susan dosReis, PhD, BSPharm, FISPE, professor in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR) at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP), has been named president-elect of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE), with her term starting in August 2026
dosReis’ selection as president-elect marks a significant professional milestone and reflects nearly 15 years of leadership and service within ISPE. Throughout her involvement with the organization, dosReis has held leadership roles in special interest groups and committees and has served on ISPE’s strategic planning committee. In 2018, she was named an ISPE Fellow, an honor recognizing outstanding commitment and service to the society
“We are thrilled that Dr. dosReis was elected to this important leadership role in ISPE,” said Jill Morgan, PharmD, professor and chair of P-SHOR. “Her longstanding contributions to the field of pharmacoepidemiology, dedication to mentoring future researchers, and commitment to advancing evidence-based medication use make her exceptionally well-suited for the presidency.”
As president-elect, dosReis will help guide the implementation of ISPE’s new strategic plan and advance the society’s mission around the world. Following her term as president-elect, she will serve as president and then immediate past president, marking a three-year term of service
“As president-elect, I will be responsible for mobilizing key parts of the new strategic plan that are now underway,” said dosReis. “I would like to prioritize the engagement of new and emerging scholars in our field.”
She also hopes to strengthen ISPE’s advocacy efforts and increase awareness of its work related to therapeutic drug safety, effectiveness, and population health outcomes
“I have been invested in identifying strategic efforts for advocacy, and I hope to bring greater visibility to the society’s work in these areas,” dosReis continued. “This will benefit ISPE by reinforcing its role as a global leader in matters related to therapeutic drug safety, effectiveness, and population health outcomes.”
In addition, dosReis plans to elevate the work of researchers and practitioners around the world, particularly in regions where limited data infrastructure and recoepidemiology
“I hope to shine a light on the work of our colleagues across the globe, particularly in regions that are less developed with regard to the data and reoepidemiologic research,” she said
Her commitment to strengthening the field globally is closely tied to her work at UMSOP
“This recognition highlights the strength of our school and our Pharmaceutical Health Services Research Graduate Program as leaders in pharmacoepidemiology,” dosReis continued. “Our commitment to the field — both in scientific endeavors and in training the pharmacoepidemiology scholars of tomorrow — will further raise our visibility.”
