Mira Rajput recently shared a video in which she recalled a simple soup recipe previously shared by Smriti Irani for people dealing with anaemia. Mira said she had struggled with anaemia for much of her life and decided to try the preparation after coming across Irani’s earlier video.According to Mira, she had the soup regularly for three months and noticed a difference in her blood reports. She described it as a simple preparation made with ingredients commonly found in an Indian kitchen, rather than a complicated diet or expensive health routine.Mira shared the video after meeting Smriti Irani on a flight. In her caption, she wrote, “And it was just a soup, foods that heal. Met @smritiiraniofficial on a flight, and aside from talking about coding platforms, history and everything under the sun, I remembered a recipe for a soup she shared that helped me like nothing else quite could for anaemia… dal ka soup has never been this good.”

Mira Rajput says the simple soup helped her

Speaking about the preparation, Mira said she had been anaemic for years and wanted to see whether the soup could make a difference. She said she consumed around half a cup every day for three months and felt that the change was reflected in her blood reports.Mira shared that the recipe was not complicated and did not require any special ingredients. She said it consisted of foods that people could easily find in a regular Indian kitchen. She also explained why she felt the recipe was worth sharing publicly. According to Mira, anaemia affects a large number of women and is not restricted to any particular social or economic group. She encouraged people to share the information with friends and colleagues who might find it useful. However, Mira’s experience is a personal account and should not be taken as proof that the soup can treat anaemia. The cause of anaemia can vary, and people with symptoms or abnormal blood reports should speak to a healthcare professional.

Smriti Irani’s simple soup: Ingredients and steps

Smriti Irani had previously spoken about the preparation during an interaction with Curly Tales. She said the soup was intended as a simple option, particularly for vegetarians looking to include iron-rich foods in their diet. The ingredients she mentioned include drumsticks, masoor dal (red lentils), onion, ginger, tomato and spices. Salt can also be added according to taste. To prepare it, start by cooking a small quantity of masoor dal along with chopped onion, ginger and tomato. Add three to four drumsticks and cook the ingredients together until they are properly softened. Salt and spices of choice can then be added.Once cooked, the ingredients can be turned into a soup and served warm. The preparation is relatively straightforward and uses familiar ingredients rather than specialised products. She had described the soup as a particularly iron-rich option for vegetarians. However, the nutritional value of a meal depends on the quantity and combination of ingredients, and individual nutritional needs can differ.

What is anaemia and what are its symptoms?

Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to transport oxygen effectively to tissues. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the condition can have several causes and may range from mild to severe.Common symptoms can include tiredness, weakness and shortness of breath. Some people may experience mild symptoms, while others can have more serious effects depending on the type and severity of anaemia.Iron-deficiency anaemia is the most common type. It can occur when a person does not get enough iron through their diet or loses blood because of an injury, illness or another underlying issue. However, anaemia is not always caused by iron deficiency. There are different types of the condition, and the appropriate treatment depends on the cause. This is why simply adding an iron-rich food to the diet may not address the underlying problem in every case. Anyone experiencing persistent symptoms or who has been diagnosed with anaemia should seek medical advice to identify the cause and determine appropriate treatment. For Mira, the soup became a simple addition to her routine that she says made a difference to her blood reports. By sharing her experience, she hopes the idea reaches women who may be dealing with it.Add ET Logo
