Mich. (WLUC) – For those who regularly work out, poor air quality conditions can quickly break your routine
With smoke filling the air and the air quality index at hazardous levels in most areas, getting a daily workout outside is not likely something you want to do
Many popular spots for outdoor exercise in Dickinson County were empty. No runners on popular routes, no climbers on the steps of Pine Mountain and in general most people stayed inside if they could avoid the outdoors. That only leaves one option for exercise in these conditions. Finding a safe place inside is the recommendation by many
The owner and coach of Pistol CrossFit in Kingsford, Corrie Ellis, says, “I would still work out, I would just try and keep it inside. Keep your windows and doors shut. Make sure you stay hydrated. Maybe keep a cold washcloth handy so you are keeping cool and not overheating.”
For most fitness enthusiasts, they stay true to their training and find a way to get it done but if they can’t go outside for a couple days, they still find a way, and they don’t let it bother them
Branden Forst of Quinnesec works out regularly and often times outside. He said, “Usually I like to come before class at Pistol CrossFit and I usually run around the block but for now I’m just kind of skipping out on it, if I get a chance at home later tonight maybe I’ll run on the treadmill but if I miss it for a day, I’m ok with that.”
Although the weather forecast looks like it will be improving in the coming days, it still looks as though the air quality will not be ideal for outdoor fitness. Keep your eyes on the sky and make sure you check the air quality index before you get back to enjoying the great outdoors
