Man charged in case of 16 children found gets modified bond due to medical emergency
HEAD INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND, COMING UP HERE IN A FEW MINUTES. ASHLEY SHEREE ALLISON. THANKS SO MUCH. NOW TO NEW INFORMATION ABOUT AN ALLEGED CHILD ABUSE CASE INVOLVING 16 CHILDREN THAT’S UNFOLDING IN VINTON COUNTY, OHIO. AND TODAY, THAT COUNTY’S PROSECUTOR EXPLAINED WHY ONE OF THE SUSPECTS WAS SUDDENLY RELEASED FROM JAIL. I KNOW THIS IS A CASE THAT HAS SO MANY OF YOU FIRED UP, SO WE’RE ALL OVER THIS FOR YOU. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S TODD TODD — SPENT THE AFTERNOON IN THE VILLAGE OF MCARTHUR, WHERE VINTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR TALKED WITH REPORTERS TODAY. WELL, VINTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR WILLIAM ARCHER SAYS THAT DOCTORS HAVE DISCOVERED ONE OF FOUR MEMBERS OF THE SEIDERS FAMILY CHARGED IN THIS HIGH PROFILE CASE. GARY SEIDERS, SENIOR, HAS A SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE HAS AGREED TO LET SEIDERS SENIOR OUT OF JAIL ON A BOND. THAT DECISION HAPPENING TODAY. THAT MEANS THAT SEIDERS SENIOR WAS RELEASED ON HIS OWN RECOGNIZANCE. INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT SEIDERS SENIOR CHRISTINA SEIDERS, GARY SEIDERS JUNIOR, AND ELIZABETH SEIDERS KEPT 16 CHILDREN HIDDEN IN A SMALL ROOM IN A HOUSE WHERE THEY WERE STAYING IN THE VILLAGE OF HAMDEN. DEPUTIES SAY THEY REALIZED WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN THEY EXECUTED A SEARCH WARRANT. IN AN UNRELATED CASE LAST WEEK. WE LATER LEARNED THAT A NUMBER OF THE KIDS, WHO ALL RANGE IN AGE FROM 1 TO 18, HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZED BECAUSE OF LIVING CONDITIONS THAT OHIO’S ATTORNEY GENERAL SAID REMINDED HIM OF THE THIRD WORLD. NOW, AS FOR GARY SNYDER, SENIOR, THE PROSECUTOR SAYS THAT HE WAS HOSPITALIZED YESTERDAY AFTER A FALL THAT LED TO THE DISCOVERY OF AN UNDISCLOSED CONDITION THAT COULD HAVE COST VINTON COUNTY AN UNTOLD AMOUNT OF MONEY. HAD SNYDER SENIOR REMAINED IN THE COUNTY’S CARE. HIS MEDICAL CARE POTENTIALLY BANKRUPT. BENTON COUNTY. WE WERE NOT GOING TO PUT THAT BURDEN ALSO ON OUR LOCAL TAXPAYERS. AND SO IT WAS AGREED THAT WE WOULD DO A BOND. SO HE COULD GET THE MEDICAL TREATMENT THAT THE DOCTOR SAID HE NEEDS. AND WON’T COST THE COUNTY THAT MUCH. NOW, IF GARY SEIDERS SENIOR IS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL, HE’LL BE OUTFITTED WITH A GPS MONITORING DEVICE THAT, COMING FROM THE ATTORNEYS TODAY. AND AS FOR THE OTHER THREE DEFENDANTS, WILL THEY EACH REMAIN IN THE STATE’S CUSTODY ON $300,000 CASH BOND? REPORTING HERE IN BENTON
