Monteloeder by SuanNutra backs clinical proof and skin-gut axis in beauty nutrition

    Key takeaways

    • Monteloeder by SuanNutra says nutricosmetics are increasingly mainstream and connected to health areas such as longevity, sleep, digestion, and stress.
    • The company highlights connections between skin, hair, and scalp health, as well as the gut microbiome, as the next phase of beauty nutrition.
    • Clinical substantiation and botanical bioactives beyond staple ingredients like collagen and biotin can help brands differentiate their products in a crowded market.

Monteloeder by SuanNutra says the beauty-from-within space is becoming more mainstream. The ingredients specialist says solutions are increasingly connected to other health areas, such as longevity, sleep, gut health, stress management, and overall wellness. It highlights market potential in holistic health products that are backed by scientific evidence.

Nutrition Insight speaks with Lauren Winchell, business development manager at SuanNutra US, about untapped opportunities and emerging ingredients in the nutricosmetics space.

“Nutrition is becoming a central part of the beauty conversation,” she tells us. “Consumers are no longer looking only for topical solutions; they increasingly understand that appearance can reflect what is happening internally.”

“This is shifting the category from ‘beauty-from-within’ as a niche concept to a broader wellness-driven approach. Skin glow, hair quality, hydration, elasticity, and healthy aging are now being connected with sleep quality, stress management, gut health, oxidative balance, diet, and lifestyle.”

Winchell says that, as a result, consumers seek solutions that feel credible, science-based, and are easily incorporated into daily routines.

“For brands, this means beauty nutrition can no longer rely only on esthetic language. It needs to communicate how internal balance, nourishment, and resilience can support visible beauty outcomes over time,” she suggests.

    Holistic health

According to Winchell, one of the biggest opportunities in nutricosmetics is the growing connection between skin, hair, scalp health, and the gut microbiome.

“Beauty is increasingly being understood as a more holistic category, where visible appearance is influenced by multiple internal and external factors.”

Beyond skin health, Winchell sees a strong potential in hair and scalp health, healthy aging, and solutions that support radiance from within. She says that, beyond traditional skin health, there is strong potential in hair and scalp health, healthy aging, and solutions that support radiance from within. “Consumers are becoming more aware that sleep quality, emotional well-being, nutrition, oxidative balance, and metabolic health can all play a role in how skin and hair look and feel.”

“This creates an opportunity for beauty nutrition to move beyond isolated cosmetic benefits and toward more integrated support for visible well-being.”

    Emerging ingredients

Winchell expects the next phase of beauty nutrition to be driven by ingredients and mechanisms that go beyond current staples such as collagen, biotin, and general antioxidants

“Mechanisms related to the skin, hair, scalp, and gut axis are especially promising. This includes microbiome modulation, oxidative balance, inflammation resolution, skin barrier function, scalp comfort, sebum balance, glycation, collagen and elastin preservation, and cellular aging.”

She highlights that these areas are commercially interesting because they allow brands to build more differentiated stories and address beauty through multiple visible endpoints. “Rather than focusing only on one benefit, they can connect skin quality, hair vitality, scalp health, and healthy aging within a broader beauty and wellness narrative.”

“Botanical ingredients and clinically studied plant-based bioactives are particularly attractive because they combine scientific potential with strong consumer appeal,” Winchell continues.

“They can offer natural positioning, sustainability narratives, and multi-mechanism benefits, which are especially valuable in a category where many finished products still look and sound very similar.”

    Holding back innovation

Navigating the regulatory landscape is one of the main challenges for brands in beauty-boosting nutrition, says Winchell. Companies are exploring new ingredients, extracts, and specific bioactive compounds as the category becomes more innovative.

“This can sometimes extend the route to market, particularly when additional regulatory steps are required, such as novel food assessment in certain regions or New Dietary Ingredient Notification in the US.”

Winchell says that clinical substantiation is becoming a key driver of innovation, especially human studies with relevant beauty endpoints.“Communication is another key challenge,” she adds. “Beauty nutrition needs to balance consumer appeal with scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance. Consumers want benefits they can understand and relate to, such as glow, hydration, stronger-looking hair, or healthy aging support. However, these messages need to be communicated responsibly and supported by appropriate evidence.”

Winchell says that clinical substantiation is becoming one of the strongest drivers of innovation. “Human studies with relevant beauty endpoints, including skin hydration, elasticity, wrinkle appearance, brightness, scalp condition, hair quality, and consumer perception, help create trust and differentiation.”

In this maturing category, she notes that ingredients with strong science will be better positioned to “stand out and build long-term value.”

    Next phase of beauty nutrition

Beauty nutrition will become more holistic, evidence-led, and connected to wider wellness needs over the next five years, predicts Winchell.

“We expect to see stronger growth in areas such as skin and hair quality, scalp health, microbiome-related beauty, healthy aging, and beauty solutions linked to stress, sleep, and lifestyle.”

She highlights long-term opportunities in ingredients with a clear mechanism of action, clinical support, visible consumer-relevant benefits, regulatory flexibility, and a strong commercial story

“The products that last will be those that can connect science with real consumer needs, making beauty benefits easy to understand without losing credibility.”

Winchell adds that Monteloeder by SuanNutra’s Visible Radiance pillar reflects the shift in nutricosmetics from looking younger to a wider conversation around visible health, which connects skin, hair, and scalp health with the microbiome, lifestyle, and overall well-being.

She explains that Visible Radiance looks at beauty-from-within through clinically supported ingredients that can help connect internal biological pathways with visible consumer-relevant outcomes.

“Within this pillar, ingredients such as Nutroxsun365 and Elissara reflect where we believe the category is heading,” adds Winchell. “Nutroxsun365 focuses on skin radiance, skin structure support, and visible beauty outcomes linked to collagen and elastin preservation, while Elissara brings a scalp-first approach to hair quality, supporting the foundations where healthier-looking hair begins.”

“For us, the future of beauty nutrition will be defined by science-backed, differentiated, and consumer-friendly solutions that go beyond isolated beauty claims and support radiance from within in a credible, holistic, and commercially relevant way.”
