The Kerala School Teachers’ Association (KSTA) has sought urgent steps to pay salary to teachers and staff of the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) in the State. Their salary had been pending for months, the KSTA said in a statement. The government had taken the decision to transform DIETs into centres of excellence and posted 140-odd staff through the Kerala Public Service Commission. Teachers had also been posted on deputation from schools. However, lack on clarity on which Budget head should their salary be paid from and accounting errors had led to salary pendency.
This was affecting everything, right from children’s education to payment of loans. Onam was round the corner. It was a shame that permanent employees who were a part of the State’s civil service were in such a situation, the KSTA said
The crisis has begun to impact employee morale, which in turn affects various important activities taken up by DIETs such as teacher training, curriculum development, research, academic support to schools, the KSTA said
