I’ve spent nearly four decades working in big London law firms, and last year I burnt out
Having worked at firms that invest in wellbeing initiatives, I know how beneficial they can be
But if you’re not in a good place to begin with, they may not have all the benefit they could. This is why I urge people to focus on themselves first
Here are three practical exercises that help support my mental wellbeing
Daily wellbeing habit: build a positive inner narrative
This is an exercise that runs in my head nearly all the time that I call ‘accelerated affirmations’. It involves cheerleading myself throughout the day to create an encouraging inner narrative
The positive self-talk begins when I congratulate myself for waking up. Then I’ll celebrate the fact that my dogs are alive and my husband is there. I give myself a cheer for taking my dogs out for a walk – and another pat on the back when I remember the poop bags
It’s all about rewarding small actions and everyday effort. This constant positive narrative sets a tone which genuinely lifts me. By the time I walk into work, I am confident in my abilities and don’t doubt myself
